Felix
de Weldon's Pieta is one of the most important works which
graces St. Matthew's Cathedral in Washington, DC. The
Carrara marbleMr. de Weldon used was taken from the same
quarry Michelangelo used for the Pieta in St. Peter's Basilica.
Felix de Weldon gave his recreation of Michelangelo's Pieta
to St. Matthew's Cathedral in 1972 in memory of his parents.
The
funeral mass for President John F. Kennedy was held at St.
Matthew's Cathedral in November 25, 1963.
