The art of Theo Tobiasse is a poetic handeling of various subjects from the history of the Jews. He employs a plethora of colors in strange and new ways to describe the emotions of that history with a clarity and vibrance not to be found in other treatments of the subject. His brilliant imagery drives home the torrents of confused emotion that run through the scenes he depicts. Born in 1927, Tobiasse studied in France at L'Ecole des Arts Decoratifs de Paris and Le Centre d'Art Dramatique. He has proven to be an immensly popular and important artist. In the short period 1962-1970 alone, Tobiasse amassed the incredible figure of 12 one-man shows throughout the world including three at the Waddingtion Galleries in Montreal, and two at the Madden Gallery in London, in addition to innumeral group shows. Tobiasse's awards have been plentiful and varied, including the Dorothy Gould award from "La Jeune Peinture Mediterraneenne" and Le Prix de Cassis, among many others. His works are to be found in collections and museums throughout the United States and Europe including: Paris, Nice, Geneva, Philadelphia, San Fransisco, New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and many other cities.
