One of the best-known
and most sought after works by Erté
is his Alphabet. In his autobiography,
My Life/My Art, he wrote: “Drawing
has been my favorite pastime from the
age of three or four, so when I was
taught to read and write, I was absolutely
fascinated by the alphabet”. Fascinated
also by the beauty and grace of the
human form, he created over many years
a series of gouache drawings combining
